About Chiapas

Amaze your attendees with an experience outside the traditional tourist hotspots.

Chiapas lights a flame of discovery in its visitors, whether they are strolling the cobbled streets of the picturesque magical town of San Cristobal de las Casas, soaking up the local colour, or sitting under the arches of Chiapa del Corzo, one of the most charming cities in the State. Go with the fascinating combination of modernity and tradition in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, located steps from the jungle, or if you prefer, delve into nature beside the legendary Palenque pyramids. If you are interested in culture and ethnicity, go to Tapachula, which is located between a beach and volcano. Nothing in Chiapas will fail to impress you.

Futuristic places and ancient monasteries. Everything is possible in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

You will love the Chiapas Polyforum and Convention Centre, in the State capital, Tuxtla Gutiérrez. It is a striking, contemporary building designed by the great architect Zabludovsky. With 3,300 m2 distributed over eight rooms, and an auditorium with capacity for 3,875 spectators, it features the latest technology to attend to any type of event.

Hotels and unique places such as theatres, museums and convents complete Tuxtla Gutiérrez’s venue offering.

Thanks to its 1,300 top-quality hotel rooms, modern airport, great restaurants, an old town bustling with life and a wide range of activities, Tuxtla Gutiérrez was considered as one of the top 10 destinations for small events by the specialist DMC Magazine in 2008.

Ancient palaces in the magical town of San Cristobal de las Casas.

San Cristobal de las Casas, which is 90 km from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, is a pure colonial inspiration. This Magical Town (an initiative led by Mexico's Secretariat of Tourism), founded in 1528, is one of the oldest cities on the continent, where strong indigenous roots are emphasised. Walking through the Baroque centre is a delight to the visitor, with its markets, exquisite crafts, and first-class cuisine. This Magical Town will fill your event with its magic, with more than 1,600 top-quality rooms.

The Casa Mazariegos Convention Centre was originally the home of the founder of the city, Captain Diego de Mazariegos in the 16th century. It was later an episcopal palace and an inn. Today, with a total area of 1,825 m2, it is an excellent venue for events. Another option is the Carmen Convention Centre, a restored colonial building with 2,300 m2 of meeting and event space.

The town’s meeting rooms and places like the Na Bolom Cultural Centre offer unique venues full of flavour and history.

Chiapas is connected to Mexico and the rest of the world.

Tuxtla Gutierrez’s International Airport received more than 802,000 passengers in 2013 (january-october). Several airlines offer direct flights to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancun and Tijuana. This airport also offers regular bus departures and transfer services to San Cristobal de las Casas, as well as to other cities in the state. It is 832 km from Mexico City, which takes about 9 hours by car.

Tapachula, located on the Pacific coast, has direct flights to Mexico City, Tuxtla Gutierrez and other Mexican destinations. Palenque International Airport will open soon.

An energising adventure in the rainforest.

The best pre- and post-event activities. If you visit Chiapas, you can’t miss out on a boat trip through the stunning Cañón del Sumidero National Park near Tuxtla Gutiérrez. To the east you’ll find adrenaline filled activities and fun, begin with a canoe ride down the La Venta River Canyon, abseil down the Sima de las Cotorras, or explore the Ocote Biosphere Reserve.

If you opt for a more relaxing activity, you can invite your group to go hiking and see the coffee plantations of Volcán Tacaná near Tapachula, visit the El Chiflón waterfalls or sail the waters of the Montebello Lakes. Chiapas is also a paradise for bird watching.

A different activity. Splendid archaeological sites and living cultures.

The ancient Maya built magnificent shrines and cities that will captivate the most discerning traveller. Palenque, a World Heritage Site, is one of the main cities built by the Maya. In the nearby town there are event facilities and services, and more than 800 top-quality hotel rooms. The magnificent murals of Bonampak in the Lacandon Jungle and the imposing Acropolis of Toniná are also highlights of the region.

The Mayan culture is still alive. If anything makes Chiapas fascinating, it is the diversity of the cultures and traditions of its people. Your group can visit traditional markets or find out about Mayan spirituality in places like the small town of San Juan Chamula, near San Cristobal de las Casas.

The State of Chiapas is one of Mexico’s most amazing destinations. It is a wonderful region that is full jungles and forests of ancient trees, and waterfalls, canyons, lakes and high mountains dotted with mysterious Mayan cities and a strong ethnic identity. It is one of the few places where man still lives in harmony with nature. It is a landmark destination for ecotourism enthusiasts, archaeology or bird watching, and it is also a popular destination for meetings and events.

Chiapas has everything for a perfect event: first-class hotels, a combination of modernity and colonialism in its conference venues, charming towns and the possibility of completing the event with amazing trips that everyone will love.

Tuxtla Gutierrez and San Cristobal de las Casas are the main event destinations, but other cities such as Chiapa de Corzo, Palenque and Tapachula also offer meeting facilities, excellent accommodation and all the necessary services.
